There are so many wonderful yoga resources available on the internet – YouTube, Yoga Journal, and yoga class sites like Yoga Vibes, but when it comes down to it my favorite way to gather new information and ideas for my yoga classes is usually through good old fashion hardcopy books, so today I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you!

Yoga for Athlete’s Books
There are so many benefits to athletes incorporating yoga into their training and I’m glad to see that there are some great user friendly books out there to help even those without any yoga experience do just that!
My favorite yoga books specifically for athletes are by Sage Rountree, an internationally recognized authority on yoga for athletes and sports endurance coach who I’ve had the privilege of studying with.
If I had to recommend just ONE of her books (although I love them all!) it would be The Athlete’s Pocket Guide to Yoga: 50 Routines for Flexibility, Balance, and Focus. This little spiral bound book will fit right into your workout bag and it has easy to follow, short sequences to target specific muscle groups – trust me, you can’t go wrong with this one!

Two more great books from Sage are:
The Athlete’s Guide to Yoga: An Integrated Approach to Strength, Flexibility, and Focus
Other Yoga Books
How to Use Yoga: A Step-by-Step Guide to the Iyengar Method of Yoga for Relaxation, Health and Well-Being Shown in 450 Photographs – a great book for beginners looking to learn proper pose alignment as well as uses for yoga props!
Yoga Journal Presents Restorative Yoga for Life: A Relaxing Way to De-stress, Re-energize, and Find Balance – this book is written by the teacher I did my yoga teacher training with. I used to go to her restorative yoga class all the time and was excited when she finally wrote her own book! Restorative yoga focuses on physical and mental relaxation through poses held for longer periods of time supported by props.
Yoga for All of Us: A Modified Series of Traditional Poses for Any Age and Ability – I took a workshop with Peggy Cappy, the author of this book, a few months ago and it was so inspiring! Peggy believes yoga should be accessible to everyone and works to share modifications and adaptions to make that possible. If you think you “can’t” do yoga, this book is for you!
Meditations from the Mat: Daily Reflections on the Path of Yoga – looking to take your yoga beyond the physical practice on the mat and into your everyday living? This book explores the 8 limbs of yoga with 365 short daily reflections – one for each day!
